The results are in, and eyelid surgery — also called blepharoplasty — is close to the top of the most popular plastic surgeries. The first wave of 2013 plastic surgery statistics was just revealed early last month by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), which revealed how many people feel about their looks … and that the eyes can truly define one’s appearance.

Alright, Eyelid Surgery in Toronto Took Second Place

Maybe eyelid surgery didn’t land at the very top, but to be fair, no procedure can beat breast augmentation. However, eyelid surgery beat the likes of other well-known facial surgeries, such as facelifts and neck lifts, to land at the number two spot. Eyelid surgery showed an increase in both genders from its previous 2012 statistics, jumping to 14 percent for women and 17 percent for men.

What Does This Mean?

Well we’ve all heard the popular phrase that says our eyes the windows to our souls, and in a way, it’s true. While obviously you can’t simply see another person’s soul, it’s one of the first places you look when meeting someone, and it’s from the eyes that you can infer a lot about a person. Just by glancing at a person’s eyes, you can make a pretty good guess about things such as their mood, and whether or not they’re tired, but one of the biggest tells is how old they are.

Sometimes, the eyes can be a dead giveaway of a person’s age, but they can also add several years to a person’s appearance or cause them to appear constantly tired or down. Because the eyes can often set the tone for the rest of a person’s appearance, they are often one of the features that we focus on most. Take all of the mascara and makeup products used on a daily basis to enhance the appearance of the eyes.

We Are More Inclined to Seek Surgical Fixes

Unfortunately, as we get older, the tricks that we used to pull to help with the appearance of our eyes don’t quite work the same anymore. Eyelids can become puffy or saggy, but many still wish to maintain a youthful appearance. When it comes to issues like these, surgery is often necessary to restore the eyes of the past.

What we’ve learned from the boost in popularity of eyelid surgery in Toronto is that 1) we give a lot of attention to our eyes, and 2) we are growing more comfortable and confident in pursuing help from plastic surgery procedures like blepharoplasty.
