What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a facelift in Toronto is to schedule a consultation with us. By either giving us a phone call or filling out a contact form, our compassionate team of experts will schedule a time for you to come meet one-on-one with our surgeons.

Dr. Golger or Dr. Romy will provide a thorough analysis of your face. As expert Toronto facelift plastic surgeons, they have a deep understanding of the anatomy of the face. This will also be the best time for you to let them know your aesthetic desires, ask questions, and get to know your surgeon.

If you’re happy with their insight and recommendations, surgery will be booked and they’ll provide you with pre and postoperative instructions. It’s vital that you follow these instructions very closely, as they are designed to reduce risk and complications with your surgical procedure.

How is a Facelift Performed?

During a traditional facelift procedure, incisions are made around the ears in well-hidden creases and extend into the hairline. This allows us to lift, tighten, and sculpt deep tissues of the lower face to produce a younger-looking appearance with firmer and smoother skin.

The incisions for a lower facelift are made behind the ear to help conceal any post-surgical marks and provide more a natural-looking result. Any excess fat along the lower face is carefully removed. The underlying facial muscles are tightened and repositioned and the facial skin is carefully lifted and tightened to give the face a more youthful appearance.

In general, the procedure takes several hours to perform. If there are more procedures, it will increase the amount of time.

Our experienced plastic surgeons perform facelift procedures using local and intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. All surgeries are different and vary based on patient needs, but typically the procedure takes between three and four hours to complete.

Facelift Recovery

After your Toronto facelift surgery, you can expect your recovery time to last approximately 1-2 weeks. Following the surgical procedure, the treated areas will be dressed to protect and promote healing. We’ll provide you with a prescription for medication to help manage any discomfort that you may experience. Facelift patients typically stay overnight and ice packs can be applied for comfort within that initial 24-hour period as well. You should expect to see some swelling and bruising, which can appear dramatic but is quite expected and temporary. We recommend that patients have a couple of weeks set aside from regular work and activities so they can relax and recover in comfort at home. After this time, the majority of swelling and bruising will have resolved. You’ll see your plastic surgeon again within the first week of your recovery for a follow-up assessment.

mini facelift

What is a Mini Facelift?

At Avenue Plastic Surgery, we also offer a lower facelift, also known as a mini-lift, for patients that have aesthetic concerns concentrated around the lower third of their face. Bothe a facelift and lower facelift can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures like a brow lift or neck lift.

Combining Facelift with Neck Lift

Combining these two procedures is very common and requested by a lot of our patients. With the combination of a face and neck lift, the surgeons are able to rejuvenate both areas, providing a seamless youthful appearance. Many times with age, both the skin in the face and neck equally wrinkle and become lax, which is why combining them makes sense and oftentimes provides the most optimal results.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Toronto?

A facelift is a highly personalized procedure. The cost of your Toronto facelift will vary based on the type of facelift performed along with other factors. The average cost of a facelift at Avenue Plastic Surgery is around $17,500 – $22,000 + Overnight Fee. Financing options are available that can help make the payment process more manageable for our patients.

Facelift Surgery FAQs

Your Questions Answered

Can a facelift be combined with other procedures?

  • Many patients combine a facelift with a brow lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), or neck lift. The combination of the surgeries can add to your desired rejuvenated appearance.

What type of anesthesia is used?

  • Our expert plastic surgeons perform facelift surgeries using local and intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia.

Can I have a facelift if I’ve already had one?

  • While the procedure is a long-lasting solution, results can change over time. The doctors are also comfortable performing the procedure on patients who failed to receive the desired expectations from their first attempt. Dr. Golger and Dr. Romy are both board-certified plastic surgeons and can help correct any errors from a first attempt or perform a second facelift if results have begun to fade.

What are the associated risks of a facelift procedure?

  • Because the procedure is a surgery, like any other surgical procedure, there are associated risks to be aware of.

How long do the results of a Facelift Last?

  • A facelift is not a permeant procedure. In general, the results can last for 10 years. However, if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and a good facial regime, the results can last much longer.

Are there any age restrictions for a Facelift?

  • Most patients who get a facelift are in their 50s and 60s. However, there is no age restriction on getting the surgery. It’s important that the patient is in good health and has medical clearance from their primary physician.

What will a Facelift not treat?

  • It’s important to know the limitations of all surgical procedures. The surgery will not fix a droopy nose. It will also not treat sagging of the eyebrows, which are generally treated with a brow lift. Some lines are better fixed using chemical peels or other lasers. Your surgeon will be able to provide his expert recommendations during your consultation.

Is a Facelift a painful procedure?

  • Getting a facelift in Toronto by the surgeons, should not produce a lot of pain. There will be discomfort that is easily managed by medications. Most patients stop taking the medications around three days after their surgeries.

Should I miss work after getting a Facelift?

  • We understand that taking time off work can be difficult. However, t’s important to rest after getting the procedure. Your surgeon will lay out specific guidelines, but generally, patients take approximately two weeks off to rest. It will be a great time to catch up on that Netflix series you’ve been putting off.

Are there scars after getting a facelift?

  • This is a surgical procedure, so there is scarring. However, the talented Toronto plastic surgeons understand the anatomy of the face and will minimize and hide the scars. The majority of the incisions are hidden around the ears and in the hairline.

Should I lose weight before my facelift?

  • With all plastic surgery procedures, we recommend that our patients are as close to their ideal weight as possible. During certain facial procedures, we can remove some excess fat, but this is not a weight-loss procedure. Oftentimes, a face or neck lift is perfect surgery following weight loss, as we can remove the excess skin left over from before.

Will my results look natural?

  • This is a question we get a lot. Mainly because we’ve all seen unnatural facelift results, where it’s very obvious the patient had “work done”. We pride ourselves on natural-looking results. By going to an expert plastic surgeon, you’re able to get the confidence that we have the training and experience to provide natural-looking results for our patients.

How do I know if I need a mini facelift or a traditional facelift?

  • A mini facelift is usually a procedure we perform for our younger patients, where a tradition is more effective when multiple parts of the face and neck have been affected due to aging, skin damage, genetics, or a past unhealthy lifestyle. During your consultation, we’ll be able to provide you with information on which procedure we think will be best for you. We’ll also go over the details and make sure you’re perfectly comfortable and fully understood the differences.
