What Can You Expect From Your Toronto Breast Augmentation Recovery?

The recovery period is one of the most important factors to take into consideration

Knowing what to expect and being well prepared for recovery, can make a world of a difference mentally by giving you peace of mind, and also physically by helping you maximize the results of your procedure.

For clients considering a breast augmentation in Toronto, it is a good starting point to understand what exactly recovery entails and how long you can expect to be off your feet. Although the specifics of recovery will vary from person to person based on certain factors such as age, skin elasticity, and breast size, here are some general guidelines on what you can expect.

The procedure itself typically takes 2 to 3 hours and is performed outpatient. Following the procedure, your surgeon may or may not fit you with a postoperative bra after which you will be moved over to the recovery room for roughly an hour before you are given the all clear to go home.

The importance of having the support

For the first couple of days, it is important to have the support of friends or family with you, as you will likely be disoriented and groggy from the anesthesia.
One of the most important pieces of advice Dr. Golger gives to his patients undergoing a breast augmentation in Toronto is to get plenty of rest and limit arm movement in order to minimize discomfort. During the first few days it is totally normal and expected to feel tightness, swelling and an uncomfortable sensation of pressure in the chest area. Oral pain medication is typically an effective way to treat these symptoms. As the body continues to heal over the first week or two following the procedure, the symptoms should subside.

When can you return to work?

The best way to ensure that you will have the smoothest recovery possible is to carefully follow the guidelines provided by your surgeon, paying particularly close attention to any restrictions that have been placed. Generally patients are asked to avoid any type of upper body exercise that can increase the heart rate and blood pressure for up to two weeks following their surgery. After the first week most women start feeling fairly normal and are comfortable enough to return to work. However, it is still important to keep the restrictions and guidelines in mind so that you do not hamper your recovery or compromise the results. Heavy lifting, especially anything over the head, should be completely avoided for up to 6 weeks. However, is it usually ok to return to light exercise after about 3 weeks.

Although it may sound like the procedure has a quick recovery period, it is important not to rush things. To get the most out of your Toronto breast augmentation, make sure you continue to follow your surgeon’s instructions until you are fully healed. Overall, these types of surgeries have a very high patient satisfaction rate, particularly when parents go into the procedure fully informed.
