Toronto Breast Augmentation – Learn The Surprising Facts About Cohesive Silicone Implants
Breast augmentation techniques and technology have come leaps and bounds in recent years
Surgeons now have more breast implant options than ever before.
As a patient, this means you are now able to customize your look and feel to fit your goals more closely than has ever been possible. In the 80s and 90s, silicone implant shells contained a fluid, sticky form of silicone. Today, these types of implants contain a more cohesive silicone gel, which is not runny but solid like a thick gelatin. Many patients undergoing breast augmentation in Toronto are now opting for cohesive silicone gel implants, as their density and ability to hold together, results in a natural feel and movement very similar to natural breast tissue.
When it comes to the level of cohesion for silicone gel, there are three different options: Responsive gel, also referred to as Truform 1, – This is the softest of the three and the most commonly used implant fill used today. The consistency of responsive gel has often been likened to that of Jell-O. The advantage of these types of implants is that even in cases where there is a disruption in the shell of the implant, the gel will not ooze out. They also feel very soft and natural.
Types of gels
Next is soft touch gel, or Truform 2- This is slightly firmer than responsive gel, yet, still soft to touch. In a round implant, this type tends to hold upper breast pole fullness a little better. The third option is highly cohesive gel or Truform 3- This gel is the firmest of the three and has the consistency of a gummy bear on the inside. Due to how firm they are, they are usually able to hold their shape well, which is an attractive option for patients looking for an anatomically shaped, “teardrop” implant. The trade off, however, is that the implant is firmer to the touch than the other options and will not move as naturally.
‘Gummy bear implants’
Cohesive silicone implants have been given the nickname ‘gummy bear implants’ due to their consistency. Compared to older generation silicone gel implants, cohesive silicone gel implants come with certain advantages. Since the consistency of the silicone inside the implant shell is so much thicker, the implants are firmer and less likely to ripple. The implant shells are far more resistant to breakage than they used to be but without liquid contents, even a shell breech doesn’t pose the same health concern it once did. Determining which level of firmness is best for you will depend on many factors. For instance, patients who have very thin breast tissue or want a ultra-natural look, a particularly firm implant wouldn’t be the ideal choice.Alternatively, for people seeking a perkier, lifter look and projection, a firm silicone implant may be better suited.
